The arthouse community is a collective of 77 creatives, 24 of them being women. They come from every corner of the world with a wide array of backgrounds and upbringings. We wanted to spotlight how each of these empowered women got their start in this industry and how they choose to express themselves through their art. They are inspiring to all that follow their creative endeavors.

Kell Mitchell - Photographer & Director

Kell Mitchell (she/her) is an award-winning Director and Photographer. She received many accolades in contemporary photography while studying in Sydney, Australia. After graduating she moved across the globe to London and began assisting some of the world’s most renowned fashion photographers. During this time she started to document the new cultures and experiences happening around her. Kell’s work is beautifully simple, relatable, and alluring in every way

In recent years, she has created Cannes Lion award winning digital content and has been shortlisted for a British Arrows Award. Some of Kell’s commercial clients include: Google, Emirates, and Samsung.

Yeni Kim - Paper Artist

Yeni Kim (she/her) humbly prides herself on being the “First Paper Illustrator & Set Designer in Korea”. She believes art has the potential to make the world a warmer, more beautiful place. With that goal in mind, she started the March Paper Art Studio. For ten years, Yeni and her company have been collaborating with global brands like New Balance, LG Electronics, Apple, Starbucks, and Shake Shack to create paper animations, set designs, advertisements, and installations.

Yeni pulls most of her inspiration from traveling and the world around her. This explains her life-like paper sets and her ability to tailor each design to fit any aesthetic.

Kate Rolston - Photographer & Director

Kate Rolston (she/her) began her career in photography after working on the Project Imagin8ion campaign for Canon. This project urged anyone with a camera to become a filmmaker, so Kate took the bait and moved West to begin her photography/filmmaking journey. After working as a co-director for some time, she decided to start her own studio with her biggest competition, Adam Bove. The pair were married soon after and have been working together ever since! 

Their company, A Collective Us, collaborates with brands and companies from all over. They share a mutual love of the outdoors. The flow and rhythm of natural life plays a large part in their work. Some of their notable clients include: Garmin, Free People, and Carhartt.

Grace Chon - Animal Photographer

Grace Chon (she/her) is an internationally acclaimed commercial and editorial animal photographer. She specializes in expressive pet portraits and authentic images of people with their furry best friends. Her work has gone viral on several occasions. Her photo series “Zoey and Jasper” gained global notoriety with mentions from The Huffington Post, Good Morning America, Buzzfeed, and The Today show. Just two years later her series “HAIRY” snagged attention from Refinery29, INSIDER, O Magazine, Vanity Fair Italia, and numerous other media outlets around the world. 

Grace is a natural when it comes to crafting ideas that get noticed. She loves to inspire and teach other creatives to do the same. Grace has worked with companies and celebrities like Target, Chelsea Handler, Purina, Chris Pratt, and Tinder.

Kaley from Kansas - Portrait Photographer

Kaley Kocinski aka Kaley from Kansas (she/her) is a photographer who specializes in editorial work and portraiture. Her style is unique and  heavily inspired by the 70’s, mid-century architecture, minimalism, and most importantly, love

Kaley’s skill of capturing raw emotion comes from her ability to disappear into the landscape, making her subjects feel as if they are alone and therefore more of their authentic selves. A client once described her work as, “capturing moments that pass between people that were never meant for anyone else. You find subtle tenderness and touch and holding and closeness—it’s true intimacy. There is also a sense of adventure and promise in your photos. It’s not that they are timeless—it’s that they feel like they have direction and weight and are headed somewhere.”

Maddy Nye - Designer & Typographer

In 2006, Maddy Nye (she/her) was the first person to receive a Professional Certificate in Sustainability Design through the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. She is now a vintage type pro who works on product, surface, brand, web, and editorial art for creative companies. Maddy’s work is inspired by psychedelia and sunny places, marrying mid century minimalism with postmodern camp. Her fonts can be found just about anywhere; from lifestyle blogs, Pinterest posts, and ban.dō merchandise. There’s no doubt you’ve seen her offbeat palettes floating around the interweb. 

Maddy has found a way to merge her two favorite things: music and type. Like wine and cheese, she pairs her fonts with a mixtape, composed of her best-loved jams to create a quintessential vibe.

Greta Rybus - Photojournalist

Greta Rybus (she/her) is a photojournalist who specializes in editorial portraiture, travel, and documentary photography. As an avid globetrotter, Greta is heavily inspired by planet Earth. She follows the works of activists, scientists, anthropological reports, and ethnographies to help guide her motivations. 

She has a goal to spend one month of every year living and photographing in a new place. Greta recently completed a photo series in which she explored how climate change impacts different individuals and communities around the world. In her own words, Greta describes her style as, “interested in documenting the full spectrum of the human experience: the struggle and joy, the light and darkness.” Her clients include Apple, REI, Urban Outfitters, the New York Times, The National Geographic Channel and more.

Summer Murdock - Children, Lifestyle, & Portrait Photographer

Summer Murdock (she/her) is the definition of a superhero momma. Inspired by the quirky activities of her four children and the great outdoors, Summer merges these elements together to create powerful images highlighting the wonders of human connection

With plenty of practice at home, Summer is a pro at juggling high pressure situations and less than cooperative children. She’s quick to snap the perfect shot and excels in expecting the unexpected. 

When she isn’t shooting, Summer runs an online photography school that she founded.

Lucía Walter - Graphic Illustrator

Lucía Walter (she/her) is a multidisciplinary graphic illustrator and designer who has vast experience in the field of design. She mixes mediums and materials to create her work, whose style is constantly evolving. As Lucía says herself, “I would just say that everything is always a ‘work in progress.’” 

Lucía is both left and right-brained. She’s got the touch of a creative but executes like an analytical thinker. Her passion and eye for detail is what makes her clients keep coming back for more. These clients include brands like: Adidas footwear and apparel, Asics, and PUMA.

Sarah Sullivan - Textile Artist & Muralist

Sarah Sullivan is a self proclaimed “rugrat” and “dreamweaver”. As a textile artist she graces this world with dazzling murals and gorgeous pieces of art.

Sarah has tried many different mediums but she always comes back to tactile materials. She states, “There’s magic in knowing that my fingers touched every single thread of yarn and there is paint still in my hair somewhere. There is an intimacy with the materials that a computer cannot match.” Sarah uses some of the world’s most traditional crafts to create modern works of art.

Whitney Anderson - Designer & Illustrator

Whitney Anderson (she/her) is a graphic designer who focuses on branding, packaging, illustration, and lettering. She had always excelled at art in school but she never imagined it would one day be  her full time job. 

Whitney’s company Wit and Co. produces and sells a wide range of products like art prints, accessories, textiles, typography, and hand drawn designs. Her style stems from the vintage charm of the American West and Midwest. Whitney’s work is warm and personal with a particular aesthetic in mind. Some of her clientele consists of: ASICS, Disney, Lululemon, MOO, and Diamond Nexus.

Maria Piessis - Mixed Media Artist

Maria Piessis (she/her) is a visual creator and beauty-seeker. She likes to find herself where photography, art, and design meet. Maria comments on her creative inspiration stating, “There is a magnetic force that pulls me to constantly seek something beyond this visible reality. The search for a secondary layer of beauty and visual pleasure in every little thing we see”. Her eye for detail and attention to color contributes to her success as an artist.

Her collage pieces are thought provoking and stylish. While her photographs are timeless and meaningful.

Megan Galante - Illustrator

Megan Galante (she/her) always searched for a way to combine her artistic ability with her love for interior design. As a seasoned artist, she’s been able to do that and more. She specializes in hand painting designs for upholstery, bedding, pillows, wallpaper, apparel, and stationary. Megan is constantly experimenting with different materials, fibers, natural dyes, and fashion illustrations.

Her designs are hip and her choice of colors are always complementary to one another. Megan's clients include brands such as Urban Outfitters, Ralph Lauren, West Elm, Cloth & Co, Anthropologie, Bloomingdales, Dwell Studio, CASETiFY, Target, One Kings Lane, Buzzfeed Tasty and more.

Sinjun Strom (she/her) set designs and photo shoots can be described as “smack-you-in-the-face” respectfully. Raised in a home exploding with niche culture icons, tattoo flash sheet flair, and flamboyant personal fashion, it's no wonder Sinjun excels in a creative practice that's deeply expressive, highly personal, and utterly style-defining. 

As a Latina woman, Sinjun strives to create images that she never saw growing up. She always looked at fashion images and felt that she could not relate to the body types and products that were being presented to her. Her thorough hands-on approach ensures a set and photographs that are purely Sinjun.

Judy Rush - Digital Artist

Judy Rush (she/her) is a leading digital artist in the advertising and photography communities. She is known globally for her digital imaging skills. Judy was a pioneer of transparency-retouching in the 1970’s and spearheaded the transfer to digital process in the 80’s. Her work for Fortune 500 companies, magazines, ad agencies, and design studies has garnered numerous awards and recognition. 

Judy founded realfake, a digital retouching studio that specializes in Creative Retouching, Library Retouching, Digital Illustration, Photo Composition, Color Correction, Stock Photo Resourcing and CGI. Judy’s experience and passion for the industry is inspiring to creatives alike.

Hyesu Lee - Illustrator

Hyesu Lee’s (she/her) work is driven by a curiosity about how people connect. As a shy child, Hyesu closely observed the people around her by drawing them. 

Drawing quickly became her preferred method of communication and expression. Her comics serve as a way to relate to others. “I always gravitate towards small moments in daily life that make you go ‘aha!’ or ‘hmm’ or ‘aww’,” Hyesu explains. In fact, “being able to create and share those appreciative moments using loose and humorous comics” is exactly what draws her to illustration over other creative mediums.
