Brock DeBoer pulls from the popular culture of his childhood at every turn, recontextualizing sneakers and Nintendo equipment in a sculptural practice that perfectly captures both nostalgia and history. Utilizing porcelain, historical motifs and surface treatments, DeBoer uses ceramic sculpture and the motifs of classical art to give these cultural relics a new life as heirlooms of the 21st century. The dedicated craft that goes into his precise reproductions tells its own story in his artworks—with the power to draw in any viewer.

Brock DeBoer was born in South Dakota in 1985 and currently lives and works in Los Angeles, CA. Recent exhibitions include “what we’ve got here is a failure to communicate”, 2018, Torrance Art Museum in Torrance, CA and “Sifting Through the Detritus”, Haw Contemporary, 2018, Kansas City, MO.
